Omarchy

I have written elsewhere on this site that I distro hopped for a while and stopped at Arch. That is still true, it is just Arch with Omarchy on top now, and I am not going back.

Omarchy is DHH's opinionated Arch setup. Hyprland as the window manager, a curated set of apps, themes where everything already matches everything else, and the whole thing installed by running one command instead of losing a weekend gluing it together yourself.

That last part is the bit I did not expect to care about. I like configuring things. I have configured plenty of things. But there is a difference between configuring something because you want it a particular way, and configuring something because nothing works until you do. Omarchy gets rid of almost all of the second kind. You boot into something that already looks good and already works, and then you go and change the parts you actually have opinions about.

Tiling is the other half of it. Everything is keyboard driven, windows go where they should without me dragging anything anywhere, and after a couple of weeks reaching for the mouse to move a window started to feel like a bug rather than a normal thing to do.

And then the themes. One switch and the whole system moves together, terminal, editor, bar, wallpaper, all of it, instead of me hand matching hex codes across six config files for an afternoon and still ending up with one thing slightly the wrong shade of grey. A very silly thing to be this pleased about. I am pleased about it anyway :)

This is what I run now, full time, for work and for everything else.
